Lamp Show! a show about lamps as much as it is a show about networks and disrupting community structures in order to create new network pathways through a model as simple as an open call for artworks. By inviting an open submission of work through the communication models we have available to us (email, Instagram, websites, word of mouth, flyers), Spore Space is producing an exhibition about chance through the topic of everyday objects. Maybe two people will meet for the first time, initiating a small change in their daily lives, or maybe this group of artists will all depart on their separate ways when Lamp Show! is finished, either outcome being a matter of chance.
Rosemary Hall and Elizabeth Herring, co-organizers of Spore Space have been thinking and talking about lamps for about a year now, thinking about the simplicity of an object that is both useful, decorative, technical to make, and fun to experiment with. Something that people need which might also attract the attention of a moth, a mosquito, or a fly.
More than anything, Lamp Show! is a summer gathering event in Ojai in celebration of the above ideas. We invite you as participants to watch, make, comment, and ignore what happens at Lamp Show!
